AKRON RUBBERDUCKS TICKET SALES ASSOCIATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

January 2018 to September 30, 2018

The RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians playing in the Eastern League. The 2018 season will mark the team’s 22nd since moving to Canal Park, located in downtown Akron. The Akron RubberDucks play 70 home games between April and Labor Day and look forward to all of the nongame day events of movie nights, Festival of Beers, Akron Marathon, and concerts during the 2018 season.

The Akron RubberDucks Ticket Sales Associate Internship Program is structured to prepare future baseball executives for a career in professional sports. The program’s main focus is to provide a continuous educational background in the business operations of minor league baseball. The Associates will gain hands-on knowledge primarily in the Ticketing Department, but will also have the chance to experience educational components from Promotions, Operations, Sponsorship, Office Management, Finance, Merchandise and Grounds. Members of past Associates programs, including three members of our current Ticketing Staff, have gone on to accept full-time positions at the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bakersfield Condors, State College Spikes, Canton Charge, Baseball Info Solutions, Las Vagas 51's, Harrisburg Senators and Kent State University.  This is a seasonal position starting in January 2018 and ending in September 2018 after the RubberDucks season is complete. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Full menu selling of new group, flex plan, and season ticket sales through phone prospecting, outside appointments, and stadium tours
  • Prospecting new group, flex plan, and season ticket sales opportunities through cold calls, referrals and networking events
  • Developing professional relationships with current clients
  • Providing a high level of customer service to all accounts
  • Staffing ticket sales information tables and mascot appearances at outside functions including luncheons, business shows, conventions, etc.
  • Must meet sales activity and revenue goals
  • Assist with other ticket duties as assigned; including game/event day duties
  • Assist in miscellaneous duties as required (i.e.-Stadium operations, marketing, office management, food and beverage and mascot appearances)

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Available to work 40+ hours per week for a nine month period
  • College degree preferred
  • Must be computer proficient
  • Possess a competitive nature and a contagious, positive attitude
  • Detail oriented, and enthusiastic about working within a sport-related environment
  • Exceptional work ethic, strong desire to succeed, eagerness to learn
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi task
  • Previous internship or work experience within sports industry preferred
  • Prior telemarketing or sales experience preferred
  • Have a friendly and professional telephone manner
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and writing) and listening skills
  • Prior customer service experience highly preferred
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently

Compensation:

  • Monthly stipend
  • Commission on all sales and a bonus for surpassing sales goal

Promotions Coordinator - Akron RubberDucks (Akron, OH)

The Akron RubberDucks (Double-A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) are seeking a highly skilled Promotions Coordinator to join our team.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to work across several departments, problem solve in a fast-paced, everchanging environment, can think on their feet and react appropriately on the fly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute all 70 promo nights, including Main Street Festivals - work with City of Akron on street closures and secure family friendly entertainment/activities
  • Manage an expense budget and schedule meetings with finance to ensure accuracy O
  • Order and design all giveaways and promo jerseys; book national acts
  • Create and execute in game promotions and on field contests
  • Perform and plan an entertaining and fun atmosphere as on field host
  • Create scripts, write PA's, work with PA announcer to ensure understanding of each game
  • Interview & manage promo crew - QuAkron Crew Promo Team
  • Oversee game day set up and execution while working with creative services department to ensure game is ready to go from "upstairs"
  • Manage mascots during games
  • Help in planning events-NA auditions, mascot auditions, movie night activities/décor etc.
  • Book national anthems, color guards, pre-game entertainment -including bands, face painters, etc.
  • Work with clients, of all levels, to ensure their in-game/promotional partnership are executed
  • Create trade deals and make relationships with local marketing outlets and publications
  • Execute all advertising buys with the assistance of the graphic designer
  • Responsible for hitting sales goal as a member of the Corporate Partnerships team
  • Lead weekly Promotions Meetings in the off-season and facilitate Homestand Meetings in-season
  • Work as a valuable member of the Front Office team - assist with any additional non-game day events
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong problem solving, attention to detail, execution, management and customer service skills with the ability to identify and develop relationships with potential clients and vendors.
  • Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time-management skills with the ability to multitask various projects and deadlines
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
