The sports turf management intern will assist in all aspects of maintaining a baseball field to professional standards. The intern will be one of the only three full time employees on the grounds staff. Due to the limited size of our crew, the intern will be trained to perform all tasks associated with field care and will shoulder much of the responsibility in maintaining Merchantsauto.com stadium to the high standards we expect.
Along with the field duties, our intern will learn about working and communicating with front office staff, managers, players and umpires. At the end of the internship, the student will have a good foundation of knowledge of how the grounds staff fits into the overall success of a minor league baseball team. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Infield skin repair, maintenance and preparation
- Repair and maintain pitchers mounds and home plate areas
- Fertilizer/ pesticide applications
- Equipment maintenance
- Game day preparation, lining, watering etc.
- Batting practice setup and breakdown
- Coordinating early workouts
- Tarp duties
- Edging and mowing
- Will learn about IPM and water management
- Irrigation repair
- Supervision of part-time staff
- Coordinating and scheduling non-traditional revenue sources (concerts, tournaments, corporate outings etc.)
- Other duties as needed
A monthly stipend will be available. The internship runs from June through August.
Stadium Operations Assistant - New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Manchester, NH)
Work directly with the Director of Stadium Operations on all tasks related to the successful operations of the grounds and facility, to include:
Operations: -Facility maintenance, repairs or improvements
-Compile daily reports of events, tasks and status of stadium
-Responsible for the daily upkeep of the exterior grounds of the facility
-Responsible for the daily upkeep of the front offices and clubhouses
Game-day responsibilities include, but are not limited to: -Assist with inbound and outbound flow of both automotive and pedestrian traffic before and after games
-Overseeing the cleaning crew and porters in the building to ensure the cleanliness of the facility
-Coordinate schedule of interns and game day staff to prepare staffing sheets for all game and events at the ball park
-Management of Game Day Staff of 20 interns and 10 hourly employees throughout the stadium
-Ensure the cleanliness of the concourse on the first base side of concourse
-Assist with pre-game set up and break down of flags, street signs, kids area inflatable’s and approach to stadium
Qualified candidate must display excellent communication, organization and highly motivated. The desired candidate should also have a strong work ethic, the ability to work as a team, and ability to multi-task. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays in an outdoor enviroment is required. This position is seasonal and pays $600/month.

Game Day Grounds Crew - Trenton Thunder (Trenton, NJ)
Accepting applications for part time employment on the Trenton Thunder Grounds Crew. Responsibilities include batting practice setup and tear down, field preparation, infield dragging, and post game field repairs. Must be available to work from 3 p.m. until the game concludes.
Requirements: Able to lift up to 50 lbs, able to work in adverse weather conditions
Position involves learning and performing all aspects of maintaining a professional baseball field. You will be working directly with the head groundskeeper on a full time basis during the season. You will be responsible for leading a crew of four game day employees. This is a salaried position with the possibility of additional income from non-game events. This position is seasonal, available from March through August/September.
Requirements: Able to lift up to and including 50 lbs, work extended hours, one year of sports turf management experience preferred.
