AKRON RUBBERDUCKS TICKET SALES ASSOCIATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

January 2018 to September 30, 2018

The RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians playing in the Eastern League. The 2018 season will mark the team’s 22nd since moving to Canal Park, located in downtown Akron. The Akron RubberDucks play 70 home games between April and Labor Day and look forward to all of the nongame day events of movie nights, Festival of Beers, Akron Marathon, and concerts during the 2018 season.

The Akron RubberDucks Ticket Sales Associate Internship Program is structured to prepare future baseball executives for a career in professional sports. The program’s main focus is to provide a continuous educational background in the business operations of minor league baseball. The Associates will gain hands-on knowledge primarily in the Ticketing Department, but will also have the chance to experience educational components from Promotions, Operations, Sponsorship, Office Management, Finance, Merchandise and Grounds. Members of past Associates programs, including three members of our current Ticketing Staff, have gone on to accept full-time positions at the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bakersfield Condors, State College Spikes, Canton Charge, Baseball Info Solutions, Las Vagas 51's, Harrisburg Senators and Kent State University.  This is a seasonal position starting in January 2018 and ending in September 2018 after the RubberDucks season is complete. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Full menu selling of new group, flex plan, and season ticket sales through phone prospecting, outside appointments, and stadium tours
  • Prospecting new group, flex plan, and season ticket sales opportunities through cold calls, referrals and networking events
  • Developing professional relationships with current clients
  • Providing a high level of customer service to all accounts
  • Staffing ticket sales information tables and mascot appearances at outside functions including luncheons, business shows, conventions, etc.
  • Must meet sales activity and revenue goals
  • Assist with other ticket duties as assigned; including game/event day duties
  • Assist in miscellaneous duties as required (i.e.-Stadium operations, marketing, office management, food and beverage and mascot appearances)

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Available to work 40+ hours per week for a nine month period
  • College degree preferred
  • Must be computer proficient
  • Possess a competitive nature and a contagious, positive attitude
  • Detail oriented, and enthusiastic about working within a sport-related environment
  • Exceptional work ethic, strong desire to succeed, eagerness to learn
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi task
  • Previous internship or work experience within sports industry preferred
  • Prior telemarketing or sales experience preferred
  • Have a friendly and professional telephone manner
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and writing) and listening skills

Associate Game Day Internship - Portland Sea Dogs (Portland, ME)

The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are looking to hire 15-20 Associate Interns for the 2018 season. 

The Associate Game Day Internship program is for highly motivated college students that have an interest in the business of sport management. The program is designed to give you your first experience in the sports industry with an emphasis on game day operations, ticket sales, and customer service. This position is open to any college student. This is a part-time seasonal internship program that would result in 10-30 hours per week.

Start Date:            April 2, 2018 (Some availability for students who are in school and cannot start until May)

End Date:              Early to Mid September

Compensation:        $10.68/ hour

Hours:                   10-30 hours a week depending on game schedule

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must currently be a college student (under classmen, upper classmen, and graduate students are all eligible)
  • Must be available for at least 75% of the Sea Dogs home games
  • A desire to pursue a career in the sport management field
  • Strong customer service skills
  • A fun and outgoing personality with a strong work ethic

Duties:

The Reading Fightin Phils Internship is a great learning experience. Upperclassman and recent college graduates have the opportunity to get directly involved and gain hands on experience in various aspects of Minor League Baseball.  The associates work directly with the front office staff to get an overview of all of the different positions. The Fightin Phils internship is a paid position.  The associates will be paid $7.25 per hour and works an average of 40+ hours/week from early April until the end of the season.  Intern is expected to work all game days plus 4-5 hours one day per week when the team is on a road trip.  We do not offer a    housing option so all candidates should live within the surrounding area of Reading, PA. 

DUTIES

Duties include running the video board for all games and creating graphic and video content for various ballpark displays before each game.  Intern will also help with video shooting and editing as needed and be responsible for logging footage from each game.  Candidate should have a solid knowledge of baseball and possess good writing skills.

The Fightin Phils internship is a paid position.  Full time associates salary range from $900 - $1,200 per month or $7.25 per hour, based on 40 hours per week during the off-season and up to 90 hours per week, in season.   We have internships starting in January and May.  We do not offer a housing option so all candidates should live within the surrounding area of Reading, PA.  All of our associates work through the end of the season (late August or until the student returns to college).  This internship is a great start for people interested in pursuing a career in sports or the entertainment industry.  We are looking for seasonal associates in group sales, ticket office sales, concessions, operations, video board, public relations, graphic design and marketing/entertainment. Below are the requirements and responsibilities of each position.

Group Sales: Group sales associates will be required to make outgoing sales calls. These calls will be to groups that have booked in the past, as well as cold calls to potential groups. You will also help with people who call in, inquiring about groups. This internship starts in January.

Group Implementation: Group implementers will assist the Group sales staff with processing orders, printing and mailing tickets, answering phones, and data entry. You will learn TicketReturn as well as Score CRM. Ticket office Intern: Ticket office interns will assist with answering phones, box office sales, printing tickets, and data entry. You will learn TicketReturn as well as Score CRM.  This internship starts in January.

Concessions: The Food & Beverage internship is responsible for food for all concessions areas and related operations. The primary responsibilities would include assisting in ordering from food vendors. You would also be Responsible for receiving all food & beverage deliveries and make sure things are put away. Assist in coordinating, supervising, and training food staff. Help ensure compliance with all health, sanitation, and safety standards. They also are involved with preparation of inventory sheets and closing of the concession operation on a nightly basis. Monthly inventory procedures and food cost analysis. Assist with purchasing and inventory control of the entire Concession Operation.  There are two positions available.  One of the positions start in January and the other position starts in March.                                      

Stadium Operations:  The Stadium Operations Intern will be required to work normal office hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) before the season as well as any other events at FirstEnergy Stadium.  During the season, they are required to work normal hours as well as extended hours on all game days and extra events. Stadium Operations Intern is expected to work to achieve the highest level of customer service and stadium cleanliness at our 67 year old facility.  Duties include willingness to paint, pressure wash and work outside.  The Stadium Operations Intern will assist with all maintenance.  This positions start in January and March, till the end of the season. 

Videoboard: Video intern responsibilities include running the Click Effects Crossfire (video board) during games and creating video and graphic content for the website, video board and other ballpark displays. They are also asked to log game highlights, edit highlight videos and assist with promotional shoots and player interviews throughout the season. Additionally, there are opportunities to write and produce other team-related promotional videos. The internship requires working daily with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Click Effects Crossfire, Sony PMW-320K cameras and the NewTek 3Play XD425 replay system. The intern also utilizes and becomes familiar with Click Effects Blaze, the NewTek TriCaster TCXD40 switcher and the Broadcast Pix Slate 500G switcher.  This position will start in April.

Public Relations: Throughout the course of the season, the Media Relations/Public Relations Associate will gain full knowledge of the day-to-day operations of the Fightins Public Relations Department. The associate will assist with but not be limited to creating and providing content for the Baseballtown Gazette(free program distributed  to fans), catering to attending media members, learning MiLB Gameday program, and writing and posting original content for official website. Other duties include maintaining day-to-day stats, researching statistics, and assisting various public relations projects. Along with the media relations duties, the associate will assist the team's Video Director in creating video board slides, camera work, and other duties assigned.  This position will start in March. 

Community Relations / Mascot: The Community Relations and  Mascot intern must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create marketing materials utilized to promote upcoming games and events., The intern will be responsible  for fulfilling donation and fundraising  orders along with going out in the community to be a mascot.  This position requires great communication skills and be able to work independently.  This position starts in January till the end of the season.

Gameday: Gameday interns will help with the following: visiting groups, taking group photos, labeling group areas, and stocking gazettes, in game entertainment, in game marketing, in game promotions, ticket office operations and assisting in the customer service booth.  They will also develop and participate in promotions team activities aimed at generating public awareness.  These positions start in April and May till the end of the season.  This is a paid position that starts at $7.25 per hour. 

Experience Required: All college majors are welcomed. Some of our associates work for college credit while others participate for the experience alone. We prefer that our interns have at least completed  their Freshman year of college while many of our past interns, participated in our internship program after graduating from college.

Job Description:                

Join one of the most exciting teams in baseball!  The Richmond Flying Squirrels are currently seeking a Corporate Sales intern, who will be an important part of reaching their Corporate Sales goals for the 2018 season through sales calls and meetings with businesses and organizations throughout the region.  Candidates will be expected to learn quickly and apply acquired knowledge about the organization to become a productive and effective member of the team.

Duties:  

  • Assist the Director of Corporate Sales with the daily operations of the Corporate Sales Department.
  • Participate fully in all aspects of the sales process, including making outgoing calls and setting up meetings and appointments with potential clients.
  • Perform in lead role with various in-game Corporate Sales programs (raffle, Launch-A-Ball, Ladies Nights promotion, etc), including training of game-day staff.
  • Assist the Community Relations Department with community events and mascot appearances.
  • Learn day-to-day operations of baseball with various roles during VCU Baseball games.
  • Assist with the coordination of Hospitality Functions for sponsors (game-day and non-game day).

Compensation:     $1,200 per month

Job Description:           Assist the Director of Ticket Sales, Box Office Manager, and as needed, Director of Group Sales in all areas of the ticket sales operation. The successful candidate will be expected to generate full season ticket sales, mini plans, groups, and individual ticket sales. Also, we are looking for someone who is not only comfortable making phone calls, but also interacting face to face with potential clients.

Game day duties will vary, but the main focus will be customer service and assisting the box office staff as needed. The successful candidate will be expected to be willing and able to assist in every department as needed, including community appearances. Individual needs to be available from January through September.

Work Experience:                    Sales experience is preferred, but not required. However, the successful candidate must be comfortable making a large number of phone calls on a daily basis and comfortable meeting potential clients face to face in social and business settings. We are looking for versatile candidates who are willing and able to assist within any department of our organization as needed. Previous sports industry experience and experience using ticketing systems preferred, but not required. Most importantly, we are looking for candidates who are hard working, driven, organized, and looking to have a lot of FUNN.

2018 Full Season Community Relations Internship - Richmond Flying Squirrels (Richmond, VA)

Compensation:     $1,200 per month

Job Description:                 The Community Relations Internship will give the individual the opportunity to learn how to successfully promote and market the Richmond Flying Squirrels in a positive, community-focused light. The individual must be versatile, friendly, positive, motivated and excited to represent the Flying Squirrels out in the community. This person will be willing to help out within other departments when necessary and is not afraid to speak/perform in front of clients, sponsors and crowds, and most of all have FUNN!

Please Note: ALL Flying Squirrels interns are required to participate in a pre-season telephone sales program.

Additional Duties:             

Non-Game Day Duties:

* Assist Community Relations Director with all school appearances ranging from the reading program, speaking engagements, mascot and player appearances, while also donning the mascot suit.

* Fulfill all donations made to outside organizations and maintain accurate database of all donations

* Help coordinate auctions, special events, etc.
* Assist in planning and implementing events for Flying Squirrels Charities

* Follow up regularly with charities that the Flying Squirrels have partnered to keep an on-going relationship

* Assist Community Relations Director with daily operations of department

* Assist in coordination and execution of Street Team events to promote ballpark events

Game Day Duties: Promotions Crew

*Manage promo crew and execute on-field promotions during all home games

*Coordinate Ceremonial First Pitches

*Prior to game, make sure all promotional materials and props for contests and games are in place and ready to go for game time, including all prizes from sponsors

 

Education/Work Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and experience working in sports or non-profit sector required. Experience as mascot, working with donations, charitable causes, promotions and Street Teams a plus. Photoshop or design experience a plus. Most importantly, candidates should be motivated, driven, organized, friendly and FUNN.

2018 Full Season Food and Beverage Internship - Richmond Flying Squirrels (Richmond, VA)

Compensation:     $1,200 per month

Job Description:                 The Richmond Flying Squirrels seek a hard working, dedicated individual to assist with the concessions department. The Richmond Flying Squirrels Internship Program is designed to be a mutually beneficial experience for the team and successful candidates. Each position will receive hands-on training from full time members of the Richmond Flying Squirrels staff and the interns will be given the opportunity to gain real world experience(s).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist will all aspects of the concessions operation, including but not limited to; receiving and distributing inventory, cooking and cleaning.
  • Monitor sales percentages / per caps, daily sales reports
  • Create and maintain an invoice log, file copies of all invoices
  • Oversee the group events area and warehouse staff
  • Assist in overseeing concession staff of 75+ on any given day, help with scheduling
  • Ensure proper food preparation and food safety practices are being followed.

2018 Full Season Group Sales Internship - Richmond Flying Squirrels (Richmond, VA)

Compensation:     $1,200 per month

Job Description:                

Intern will assist the Group Sales Department in reaching sales goals for the 2018 season through calls to local businesses and organizations. Intern will also assist in organizing and executing our Little League Program, Education Days, Scout Nights, and Birthday Parties.

Position Responsibilities:                

  • Call potential clients (50 calls per day) as well as set up face-to-face meetings.
  • Help organize and execute major group events such as school days, scout nights, camp days and little league programs.
  • Help oversee catered areas such as the Birthday Bash, Picnic Zone and Party Decks.
  • Responsible for planning and executing select theme nights.
  • Attend community events and assist with mascot and player appearances.
  • Process ticket orders.
  • Assist in the daily duties of the Group Sales Department and assist with other duties as needed.
  • Individual must be available from January through September.

 Work Experience:       

  • Energetic, well-organized, and self motivated individual who can handle multiple projects at once.
  • College Senior or Recent Graduate
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends, 40-100 hours/week depending on game schedule.
  • Business or Sports Administration majors preferred.

Join one of the most exciting teams in baseball!  The Stadium Operations Intern will learn to diligently maintain the stadium to full functioning capability. The position will give the intern a full working knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a minor league baseball team.

2018 Full Season Suites Coordinator Internship - Richmond Flying Squirrels (Richmond, VA)

Compensation:     $1,200 per month

The Flying Squirrels are currently seeking a Suites Coordinator Intern. Intern will assist Suites Catering and Group Sales Departments in reaching their goals for the 2018 season. Through this internship, the intern will experience the behind-the-scenes aspects of a Minor League Baseball Front Office as well as gain first-hand experience in how a minor league team’s catering operation runs. The intern will work very closely with prominent businesses in the Richmond Metropolitan area. It is important for each customer to walk away with a positive experience. Whether, it is a small business utilizing the suite or the Governor of Virginia, the Suites Coordinator is there to make their experience convenient, entertaining, and enjoyable. Another key aspect of the position is generating Group Sales by prospecting and making daily sales calls to local businesses and organizations.

Please Note: ALL Flying Squirrels interns are required to participate in a pre-season telephone sales program.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing 15 Luxury Suites, and 3 Party Decks for all 70 Squirrels home games.
  • Help coordinate catering requests, answer questions and help assist clients in our hospitality areas while they entertain their clients and employees.
  • Will put pre-orders together from orders received online and over the phone. Important that details of each Suite/Party Deck are accurate and contacted when order is received.
  • Responsible for helping to oversee that each Suite/Party Deck is set up and clean before gates open each night.
  • Will take care of drink requests for Suites and Party Decks and will stock fridges. (Need to be able to lift up to 25 pounds).
  • Will work directly with the Executive Chef and Catering Intern on coordinating clients’ food requests during season.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure that event specifications are communicated and executed for a successful experience for the suite holders and attendees.
  • Customer relationship management; build and maintain working relationships with internal and external partners, and leverage these relationships to deliver innovative and memorable events.
  • Help supervise Suite Attendants and serve as a liaison between catering kitchen staff and Suite Attendants.
  • Assist with set-up and execution of hospitality for non-game day events at The Diamond.
  • The Suites Coordinator will also assist the Group Sales department by making daily cold calls to generate revenue. They will be responsible for selling Suites, Party Decks and other hospitality areas.

 

Work Experience Preferences:         

  • Quality candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills with an outgoing and service-focused personality as well as a strong level of intensity and commitment to providing a high level of customer service.
  • College Senior or Recent Graduate
  • Previous Sales Experience
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends, 40-100 hours/week depending on game schedule

  • Valid Driver’s License and transportation
