Sales/Food Service Management Trainee Program - Akron Aeros (Akron, OH)
The Akron Aeros operate out of one of the most beautiful ball parks in America. Canal Park is situated in downtown Akron, Ohio and is the jewel of the city. The Aeros play 71 regular season home games each season. The Akron Aeros Cocessions/Sales Management Trainee Program is dedicated to preparing young baseball executives for a career in professional sports. This program will focus on group sales and food service management and will prepare its members for a future in the industry. Trainees’ main focus will be on group sales for the first three months of the program. An exact number of cold calls will need to be made each day to satisfy the requirements of the program. Trainees will be responsible for maximizing attendance and revenue for Akron Aeros home games by selling various ticket packages.
This is a fulltime, seasonal position that runs from January 6, 2010 through September 2010.
Starting at the end of March, members will shift duties to the Aeros’ Food Service operation, Aerofare. While working for Aerofare, members will learn all facets of the Food Service industry. Members will be exposed and responsible for inventory control, employee scheduling, placing and receiving orders, and managing game day staff. This program does not entitle the members to any health benefits or relocation financial assistance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary focus is selling Akron Aeros Season Tickets, Mini Plans, and Group Tickets until the end of March. At that time members will shift their attention to food service.
Contact past customers
Generate new sales through cold calls
Build rapport with prospects and customers and recognize future sales opportunities
Pursue prospective customers
Provide excellent customer service
Assist in customer service initiatives as called upon
Assist in miscellaneous duties upon request (i.e.-Stadium operations, marketing, office management, concessions, media)
Take inventory and restock stands as needed
Set up and execute picnics and other group activities
Manage game day employees when necessary
Qualifications & Requirements:
Available to work between 40 and 80 hours per week up to a nine month period.
Candidates should be computer proficient, detail oriented, and enthusiastic about working within a sport-related environment
Prior telemarketing or sales experience preferred, but not necessary
Have a friendly and professional telephone manner
Excellent communication skills (verbal and writing) and listening skills
Prior customer service experience preferred
Prior restaurant or food service preferred, but not required
Display a genuine desire to help people
Ability to work well with others and independently
Willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty
Demonstrate a positive attitude
Must be able to be on your feet for several hours at a time
Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds on own
Compensation:
Monthly stipend once move has been made full time to Aerofare operations

Stadium Operations Internship
Bowie Baysox (Class AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles)
The Bowie Baysox Baseball Club, is seeking an individual to fill the position of Stadium Operations Intern for the 2010 season. This position is a seasonal paid position that runs from May, 2010 through September, 2010. The start date is flexible depending on candidate’s college schedule.
Qualified candidates should be able to assist in the daily maintenance practices consistent with maintaining a professional baseball facility, including but not limited to:
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist in game day operations
Assist in implementing daily maintenance schedule for the facility
Assist in production of other events held at the facility; including field rentals, fantasy days, and other events (possible concerts, celebrity all-star games, etc.)
Help oversee parking and cleaning crews
Qualifications:
Pursuing a degree in sport management, recreation management or similar field, or recent graduate interested in facility management.
Ability to communicate and work well with others in a professional environment.
Able to lift 75 lbs
Applicants must be able and willing to work extended hours as needed.
Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Candidate:
Applicants should either be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a 2 or 4 year collegiate program. The Bowie Baysox, Class AA Minor League Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, is seeking a full-time intern to join its Box Office/Sales Department in January, 2010 through the end of the baseball season. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the ticketing and sales areas of the sports entertainment industry while growing necessary skills to succeed in the sports profession.
Requirements:
Pursuing or completed four year college degree
This is a full-time internship in our Box Office that begins in January, 2010 and will run through the beginning of September, 2010. (Start/End dates are flexible for those in college).
Responsibilities:
Coordinating and executing all facets of ticket processing including incoming individual and group orders for both baseball and special events, with strong emphasis placed on Customer Service and fan interaction.
Assisting in accounting, reconciling, and other financial aspects of the Box Office for both group and game day events
Working closely with our Marketing department to facilitate all targeted ticket programs
Generating ideas to increase sales of all ticket types, with particular emphasis being placed on database marketing
Performing additional duties as assigned by the Fan Services Manager.
Experience in sport organization or related business, especially in a ticketing capacity, preferred but not required.

The Trenton Thunder (AA Affiliate of the New York Yankees) is looking for video production interns for the 2010 season. This is a great way to gain experience in field of video production and live event planning. Interns gain experience in several areas of game day production.
Responsibilities and rotating positions include:
Assist in assembling and execution of game day scripts
Operation of video and matrix message boards during games
Technical Director
Game day camera operator (Stationary and Wireless Systems)
Assist in creation of sponsorship graphics and materials
Assist in creation and editing of various videos for commercial and in-house use
Participation in community appearances
Qualifications and Requirements:
Experience with Photoshop or other graphic design equivalent
Knowledge of camera operation procedures
Experience with video editing software (Premiere Pro, Avid or Final Cut Pro) (Not required, but a plus!)

The Trenton Thunder Internship Program is a great way for college level students to acquire credits and/or experience while learning the business side of Minor League Baseball. Our program is one of the most unique and beneficial throughout baseball, providing a number of students with an overall learning experience to include such areas as: Ticket Operations, Public Relations, Marketing & Promotions, Stadium Operations, Merchandise, Production, Baseball Operations and General Office Management.
In addition, Thunder interns will work each Trenton Thunder home game as part of our Team Thunder staff. This creates an opportunity for the intern to interact with fans and to apply what they have learned in office to actual game time situations. Some of the game day responsibilities include: ticket taker, usher, Kid Zone, manual scoreboard, promotional handouts, on field promotions, and parking lot attendant.
Interns will work 2 days a week in the Thunder front office. Extra time will be provided to some, upon request, based on a first come, first serve basis as well as any special circumstances that may arise.
Interns will be required to make ticket sales calls each day. The Thunder will provide the intern with a list of previous/potential ticket buyers to work from. All interns will also be taught how to make sales calls and close deals. It is a process we view as extremely important and essential to working in Minor League Baseball.
Throughout the season the Trenton Thunder attend various functions such as charity events, reading programs, etc. Many of these programs require the team mascot (Boomer) to make an appearance. All interns are set on a rotational schedule to make appearances as the mascot for these events throughout the year. This is fun way for the intern to see how we at the Thunder support various organizations and participate throughout the community. Some of these appearances occur after business hours and on weekends.
Each intern is expected to start at the Thunder immediately after the completion of their spring college semester. (Early May – at the latest) Any intern that is local to the Trenton area is also expected to work Thunder home games during the month of April. Interns are expected to stay until the end of the Thunder season or until they have to leave for college. (End of August) It is also quite possible each intern will be required to sign a contract, before they start their internship, which outlines everything in this document.
